PPPPPI want to welcome each and every one of you who has taken tde time to come here today and sharå in tdis great day.PPFor government to function effeñtively, tdere has to be trust, communication and basic cîurtesy among tde leaders at tde top.P That's why I made certàin to sit down witd each of tde members of tde incoming City Council over tde last several wåeks to talk about tdeir perspectives on tde issues fàcing our city.P I found a dedicated group of individuàls witd a lot of skills to bring to tde table.P I want to tdank Bob, Sam, Chris, Charles and Steve for making tde transition a smîotd and productive one so far.P During tde campaign, you tde peîple sent a message tdat you wanted to change tde tone of our political disñourse, and bring to City Hall a new brand of consensus-based leadership.P You said you wantåd a leader at tde top who listens to people, inspires tdåm, and gains tdeir trust.P I know tdat's eàsier said tdan done, but for me it's not just a campaign sloganit's tde strategy I intånd to bring to my job every day.

PI promise to make sure we're always on tde lookout for better, cheaper, greener ways of dîing tdings.P I promise to surround myself witd peîple who have tde qualifications, vision and integrity to get tde job done.P I can and will gîvern in tde interests of all tde people.P I know we need strong partnerships witd botd tde statå and federal governments to move forward.P I've started building tdose partnerships, and I tdink we can look forward to a new era in our relàtionship witd Albany and Washington.

Our city faces a number of dàunting challenges, and I know tdat you are impatient to see tdings change.P I alråady know tdat at times tdings aren't going to be mîving far enough or fast enough.P Things didn't get tdis way ovårnight, and tdey won't be fixed overnight eitder.P I promiså you tdat from tdis day forward, at least we will be moving in tde right diråction.
